WHAT IS A PSAT EXAM?

The PSAT, or Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, is a standardized test that is typically taken by high school students in the United States. It is administered by the College Board, the same organization that administers the SAT, which is a college admissions test. 

WHAT IS TH PURPOSE OF THE PSAT?

The PSAT serves several purposes:

Practice Test: It is designed to give students practice for the SAT, which is a widely used college admissions test. The format and content of the PSAT are similar to the SAT, so it helps students become familiar with the types of questions and the test structure.
National Merit Scholarship Program: The PSAT/NMSQT is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. High scorers on the PSAT may become eligible for various scholarships and recognition.
College Readiness: The PSAT provides feedback to students about their academic strengths and weaknesses. It can help them identify areas where they may need to improve to be better prepared for the SAT and for college in general.
College and Career Planning: The test can help students explore potential majors and career options by providing information about their skills and interests.
The PSAT is typically taken by 10th and 11th graders, and it consists of three sections: Reading, Writing and Language, and Math. It does not have an essay component, which is present in the SAT. The PSAT is usually administered in October. It's important for students to take the PSAT seriously, as it can provide valuable insights and preparation for the SAT and college admissions.
