TRAVELLING BY CAR ? CHECKS TO DO BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Are you heading off on holiday? Before you hit the road, it is best to do some checks for your safety and the safety of others.

Before going on holiday, make sure everything in your car is in order. A vehicle in good condition helps to prevent problems right in the middle of your holiday. You need to pay attention to leaving with a safe car.

WHAT CHECKS TO MAKE?

  • Make sure that your car's MOT is in order and, if it isn't, contact a garage to carry out all the necessary checks;
  • top up the windscreen washer fluid and check the wiper blades. Check the operation of all light bulbs and check the height of the headlights, especially if you are travelling with a heavily laden car;
  • check that the air conditioning is working correctly. A hot interior can have the same effect as alcohol on a driver's attention;
  • before getting behind the wheel, check the tyre pressure and tread depth (by law, 1.6 mm, we recommend at least 3 mm), including the spare wheel. Remember that inadequate pressure can cause the vehicle to lose stability;
  • have the engine oil level checked? To be on the safe side, always keep a spare oil pack in the boot, making sure it is suitable for your car model;
  • if you have a spare tyre, check its condition and that of all the tools needed for a possible wheel change: jack, warning triangle, waistcoat..;
  • if you're travelling with children, make sure they are travelling in an age-appropriate, approved car seat;
  • remember that a car in good condition also needs a driver in good condition: do not drink if you have to get behind the wheel and avoid heavy meals to avoid drowsiness while driving;
  • plan your trip and, if necessary, identify the cheapest petrol stations along the route.
And check your car ID and other documents?
