NEW RULES FOR TRAVELLING IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

12/10/2021

Picture
Are you planning to travel to the UK this festive season?
 Let's see what the new rules are.

What are the new rules?

At  the end of November, travellers to the UK have to comply with many strict rules set out by the British Government to contain Covid infections. From booking a swab when you arrive at, filling in the passenger locator form: let's take a detailed look at the procedures to follow and what differences there are for those who have completed the vaccination cycle.
Since last 30 November, travellers to the UK have followed new rules.

All travellers are subject to compulsory precautionary isolation until the result of the molecular swab (the rapid swab is not valid) to be carried out within the second day of arrival on British territory.
Different procedures depend on who has or has not completed the vaccination cycle.

Vaccinated and in possession of a Green Pass?

If you arrive in the UK, have completed your vaccination and hold a European Green Pass, you must follow these procedures:

  • book a molecular swab to be carried out in the UK by the second day after arrival (also known as a 'day 2 test') at an approved medical centre chosen from a list and observe a period of precautionary isolation until the result of the swab;
  • Complete a passenger locator form, giving details of your day 2 test booking and stating that you have not transited through a high-risk country ten days before arrival in the UK. You will also need to declare that you have completed a course of vaccination with one of the vaccines accepted by the UK: Pfizer/BioNTech, Oxford/AstraZeneca, Moderna, Janssen, Sinovac, Sinopharm Beijing, Covishield and Covaxin;
  • travel with a vaccination certificate (the green certificate/European green pass) to be shown at the border upon request.

If you follow these three guidelines, you do not have to swab before departure or observe the precautionary isolation period after arrival.

Are you not vaccinated or from high-risk areas?

The UK government provides these rules for those who have not completed their vaccination cycle or have transited through high-risk countries ten days before arrival in the UK:
  • present a negative result from a swab taken within three days before the day of departure;
  • complete an online form (the so-called 'travel locator form') within two days before the day of departure;
  • observe 10-day precautionary isolation (depending on the countries visited before arrival in the UK);
  • undergo control swabs on the second and eighth day after arrival in the UK.
  • If you stay in the UK for less than ten days (e.g. transit travellers needing to stay overnight in the UK), you must observe isolation while in the UK, but you can break quarantine to go to the border and leave the UK.

Travellers in transit through UK airports are exempt from booking monitoring swabs for the second and eighth day and from filling in the passenger locator form (for those who stopover without passing through UK border controls). Instead, the requirement to fill in the passenger locator form for those who stopover through UK passport controls and the pre-departure swab for the unvaccinated remains.
All clear now but ....
