458 beaches in 226 resorts across Italy have been awarded the 2023 Bandiera Blu (Blue Flag) status for excellent water quality and high environmental standards.

The Italian region with the highest number of Bandiera Blu beaches in Liguria is once again in the top spot with 34 beaches, including two new entries: Laigueglia and Sori.
Puglia is now in second place with 22 Bandiera Blu resorts, with four new locations: Gallipoli, Isole Tremiti, Leporano and Vieste.
And Centre?
In third place with 19 Blue Flag recognitions are Campania and Tuscany, both of which have a new entry (San Mauro Cilento and Orbetello, respectively), and Calabria with two new blue flags for Catanzaro and Rocca Imperiale.
The number of Bandiera Blu beaches in Le Marche rises to 18 with the addition of Porto San Giorgio, while Sardinia reconfirms its 15 resorts from last year, as does Abruzzo (14), Sicily (11), Lazio (10), Trentino-Alto Adige (10) and Veneto (9).

Nine beach resorts in Emilia-Romagna were awarded Bandiera Blu status, with one new entry (Gatteo) and one departure (Cattolica) compared to last year.

Basilicata has confirmed its five blue flags, while the number in Piemonte rose to five with the addition of San Maurizio d’Opaglio and Verbania.
Friuli Venezia Giulia confirms its two blue flags from last year, with Lombardy's Bandiera Blu recognition for lake resorts rising to three with two new entries (Sirmione and Toscano Maderno), and Molise wins two blue flags thanks to the recent addition of Termoli.
