DO YOU WANT TO JOIN TO THE "MARCO POLO" PROJECT? WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR A VISA STUDENT?

​The "Marco Polo" Project was launched in Italy in 2005. It was created to promote the Italian university system in China and facilitate Chinese students' access to Italian university institutions. 

WHAT IS THE MARCOPOLO PROJECT?

Through the "Marco Polo" Project, Chinese students who hold or wish to obtain an academic specialization are allowed to obtain entry visas to Italy to access

University Institutions in courses of study that provide a quota for said students, provided that they first attend a 10- or 11-month Italian language course offered by some Italian universities and language centers participating in the Project.
At the end of the course, students who obtain B1 level certification or higher will have the language requirement to enroll in the chosen institution. This annual procedure is valid for A.Y. 2024/2025. The Ministry of University and Research drafts it in consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to facilitate the orientation and policies of Italian university institutions regarding the admission of students of Chinese nationality to their courses. 

WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO JOIN IT AND FOR STUDENT VISA?

Pre-application for issuing visas to applicants of courses of study at Italian higher education institutions should be submitted using the UNIVERSITY portal (https://www.universitaly.it), according to the instructions already received by all Italian higher education institutions. Competence for issuing a study visa The final decision on issuing a study visa is the exclusive competence of the diplomatic-consular Representation. The validation of the application for pre-enrollment in the course of study and the related documentation produced by the Italian University Institutions is to be considered in support of the study visa evaluation procedures. It does not automatically imply the issuance of the visa above since the diplomatic-consular Representations, in addition to verifying the possession of the requirements for issuing a study/enrollment visa, also must assess the absence of the student's migration risk.

•  Entry visa application form ( View )
•  recent passport-size photograph 
•  valid travel document whose expiry date is three months longer than that of the visa requested 
•  proof that the applicant has accommodation in Italy: hotel booking, declaration of hospitality  
•  proof that the applicant has sufficient means of subsistence for their stay in Italy, for an amount not lower than that specified in Table A annexed to the Directive of the Ministry of the Interior dated 1st March 2000
•  health insurance, if the foreign national is not entitled to health care in Italy by virtue of agreements or conventions in force with their country 
•  enrolment or pre-enrolment in the course to be followed in Italy.
